Wise Owl Painted Book Bag

Send the kids off to school with this wisely-colorful book bag made with SoSoft® Fabric Paint.
SUPPLIES
- water container
- palette or plastic plate
- tracing paper
- pencil
- #3 round brush
- #2 liner brush
- 1/4" flat brush
- 1" painter's tape
- cosmetic sponge
- canvas bag
INSTRUCTIONS
NOTES:
Let dry completely between painting steps.
- Stencil dots on the front of the bag with the cosmetic sponge, Indian Turquoise, and the Polka Dot Accent Stencil.
- Transfer the illustration over the polka dots with tracing paper and a pencil.
- Using the #2 liner brush and Lamp Black, outline the design. Also color in the pencil tip, leaving space for a white highlight.
- With the 1/4" flat brush, fill in the Lavender owl body and Lavender pencil part, the Primary Yellow pencil, the owl wings in Bright Avocado, and the owl mask in Indian Turquoise. Mix a grey with 2:1 White and Lamp Black and, with the 1/4" flat brush, fill in the hat and belly. (Save mix for later step.)
- With the #3 round brush, fill in the Bright Avocado owl eyes and owl feet. Use Primary Yellow for the owl beak and add the highlight and white part to the eyes and pencil tip with White.
- Add White to the grey mixed in step 4 to make a lighter grey for the scallop shapes on the belly. Paint them in using the #2 liner brush.
- Mix 2 parts Bright Coral to 1 part White for the eraser. Paint it in using the #3 round brush. Add more White for the part of the pencil near the tip and fill it in with the #3 round brush.
- Mix lighter versions of every color to add highlights using the #2 liner brush to the edges of the design to make it stand out against the turquoise bag.
- Using Lamp Black and the #2 liner brush, fix any lines that got messed up and add polka dots and accent marks.
